The MENA Editors Network has announced the opening of applications for 100 honorary memberships for professional journalists from across Africa, as part of its newly launched MENA Africa Initiative.
The programme aims to recognise experienced African journalists, strengthen professional connections across the continent, and provide a platform for exchanging knowledge, opportunities and journalistic expertise.
Applicants are required to submit an updated professional résumé demonstrating their experience and active engagement in journalism. They must also provide credible evidence of their professional work, including links to published articles, reports, investigations, interviews or multimedia stories in Arabic, English or French.
Applications may be further supported by a valid membership card issued by a recognised journalists’ union or professional association in the applicant’s country, an employment or experience letter from a media organisation, or other documents verifying professional practice.
Journalism awards, certificates of appreciation and professional recognition in the media field will also strengthen an application.
Applications that do not include a professional résumé and sufficient evidence of professional journalistic practice will not be considered.
All submissions will be reviewed by a specialised committee within the MENA Editors Network. The assessment process will consider professional experience, the quality and credibility of published work, career continuity, journalistic specialisation, and geographical diversity.
Meeting the eligibility requirements qualifies an applicant for assessment but does not guarantee acceptance, as only 100 journalists will be selected for honorary membership.
Through this initiative, the MENA Editors Network seeks to build a dynamic and inclusive professional community that brings together journalists from different African countries and linguistic backgrounds. It also aims to support collaboration, professional development and the production of journalism that reflects Africa’s diversity, challenges and aspirations through the voices of African journalists themselves.
The MENA Africa Initiative forms part of the network’s broader strategy to expand its professional programmes across the continent and strengthen cooperation among journalists, media organisations, universities, training centres and professional institutions.
Eligible African journalists are invited to submit their résumés, samples of published work and supporting professional documents through the network’s official application channels.
