MENA Editors
In response to the urgent humanitarian and professional call, the MENA Editors Network announces its participation in the international campaign launched by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), which has been joined by hundreds of media outlets from around the world, in solidarity with Palestinian journalists in the Gaza Strip.
This participation reaffirms the Network’s firm stance that protecting journalists is not a choice but rather a moral, humanitarian, and legal duty. According to statistics from international bodies and institutions, the Israeli army has repeatedly committed massacres against journalists, killing more than 235 in less than 23 months.
In line with the objectives of this campaign, the Network, along with its partners, calls for
- Protecting Palestinian journalists and putting an end to the policy of impunity for crimes committed against them.
- Granting foreign media outlets independent access to the Gaza Strip to cover events on the ground.
- Providing urgent mechanisms to host Palestinian journalists who wish to leave the Strip in order to safeguard their lives.
The Network also calls on the international community, as the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly approaches, to assume its responsibilities and take concrete steps to protect journalists and stop the crimes committed against them, urging the UN Security Council to put an end to these ongoing violations.
By announcing its engagement in this campaign, the MENA Editors Network reaffirms its full commitment to defending press freedom and protecting journalists in all conflict zones and considers solidarity with Gaza’s journalists to be solidarity with truth, justice, and human rights everywhere.
