🕊️ On the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, the MENA Editors Network took part in the International Forum held in The Hague, Netherlands, on Monday, November 3, 2025, under the title:
“Gaza and Deferred Justice: Media Facing War Crimes.”

This participation, organized in collaboration with Maison du Peuple d’Europe, reaffirmed the crucial role of the media in uncovering the truth and holding accountable those responsible for crimes against journalists—particularly in conflict zones where freedom of the press is most at risk.

The sessions were held at the HNK Den Haag Conference Hall (V8), gathering a distinguished group of journalists, academics, and European researchers who discussed the challenges of journalism during wars, the mechanisms to promote media justice, and the fight against information manipulation in times of conflict.

🎙️ Speakers included:

  • Tineke Bennema – Writer and Historian
  • Eildert Mulder—Journalist at Trouw (Netherlands)
  • Miryam Aouragh – Professor, University of Westminster (UK)
  • Jelle Klaas—Lawyer at the Public Interest Litigation Project (PILP)
  • Dr. Sai Englert – Assistant Professor, Leiden University

The speakers highlighted the importance of independent media as a tool for accountability and truth, stressing that protecting journalists means protecting the public’s right to know and freedom of expression.

In a special statement to Maison du Peuple d’Europe, Aboubakr Ibrahimoglu, Chairman of the MENA Editors Network, said:

“Impunity doesn’t only endanger journalists—it endangers truth itself. As media professionals, we have a duty to rebuild public trust in journalism and to safeguard people’s right to accurate and objective information.”

Ibrahimoglu added that the network, through its initiatives and international partnerships, seeks to support field journalists, develop protection and documentation tools, and foster a culture of professional solidarity in the face of growing threats to press freedom.

This forum reflects a shared vision between the MENA Editors Network and Maison du Peuple d’Europe, aiming to advance media justice and emphasize the human and ethical role of journalism amid wars, occupations, and humanitarian crises.
