Damascus – Abdullah Zaid
As part of an official working visit to the Syrian Arab Republic, the Director of the Middle East and North Africa Editors Network, Aboubakr Ibrahimoglu, met with the President of the Syrian Journalists Union and several members of its Executive Council.
The meeting focused on strengthening joint cooperation, particularly in the areas of professional training and capacity building, enhancing the skills of young journalists, and exchanging expertise in institutional media work.
Both sides discussed the framework of a cooperation protocol that includes organizing specialized training programs and workshops in digital journalism, fact-checking, and media ethics. The discussions also covered expanding collaboration in implementing the Digital Media Diploma program accredited by Istanbul University, enabling Syrian journalists to enroll under special facilitation measures and substantial discounts in support of their professional and academic development.
The two parties underscored the importance of building sustainable professional partnerships that serve journalists across the region, contribute to strengthening media competencies, and broaden prospects for regional cooperation in media development.
The visit comes as part of the Network’s broader efforts to expand its institutional presence across the Arab world and to consolidate high-quality training programs in partnership with established academic institutions.
