The new communities will connect journalists, experts, researchers, and content creators through specialised training, professional dialogue, collaborative projects, and cross-border media initiatives.
MENA Network has announced the introduction of seven specialized professional communities designed to bring together journalists, media professionals, researchers, experts, and content creators working across a range of sectors.
The new communities are MENA ART, MENA SPORT, MENA BUSINESS, MENA SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY, MENA CREATORS, MENA VERIFY, and MENA ACADEMIA.
Operating as professional units within the MENA Network, the communities will provide structured platforms for networking, knowledge exchange, specialised training, and cooperation on media and research projects.
The initiative forms part of the network’s strategy to develop more focused professional spaces that respond to the diverse interests and needs of its growing community of journalists and media practitioners.
Seven Specialized Communities
Each community will focus on a particular professional or editorial field while contributing to the wider mission of MENA Network.
MENA ART
MENA ART will bring together journalists, critics, artists, cultural researchers, photographers, and content creators interested in arts and culture.
The community will support cultural journalism, encourage professional coverage of artistic events, and create opportunities for dialogue between media professionals and the creative sector. Its activities may include interviews, exhibitions, cultural reports, specialized workshops, and collaborative media projects.
MENA SPORT
MENA SPORT will serve sports journalists, commentators, photographers, analysts, and professionals working in sports communication and media.
It will focus on developing professional sports coverage, strengthening ethical standards, improving reporting and analysis skills, and creating opportunities for cooperation around regional and international sporting events.
MENA BUSINESS
MENA BUSINESS will connect business and economic journalists with entrepreneurs, analysts, investors, researchers, and corporate communication professionals.
The community will promote accurate and accessible economic journalism, support coverage of entrepreneurship and emerging markets, and encourage dialogue between media professionals and the business sector.
MENA SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY
MENA SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY will focus on scientific journalism, technological developments, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, cybersecurity, innovation, and emerging technologies.
It will seek to help journalists communicate complex scientific and technological subjects accurately and responsibly while building connections with researchers, specialists, universities, and technology institutions.
MENA CREATORS
MENA CREATORS will provide a professional platform for digital storytellers, video producers, podcasters, photographers, social media creators, and other professionals developing original digital content.
The community will focus on storytelling, audience engagement, platform development, ethical content production, digital entrepreneurship, and opportunities for cooperation between independent creators and media organisations.
MENA VERIFY
MENA VERIFY will specialise in digital verification, fact-checking, open-source research, media literacy, and combating misinformation and manipulated content.
It will support journalists and institutions through training, practical verification resources, collaborative monitoring initiatives, and professional discussions about artificial intelligence, deepfakes, and emerging information threats.
MENA ACADEMIA
MENA ACADEMIA will connect academics, researchers, university lecturers, media trainers, graduate students, and professionals interested in media research and education.
The community will encourage joint research, academic publishing, conferences, seminars, and cooperation between universities and media institutions. It will also seek to strengthen the relationship between academic knowledge and professional newsroom practice.
A Framework for Professional Cooperation
The seven communities will operate under an organisational framework developed by MENA Network to ensure effective coordination, professional governance, and consistency with the Network’s principles and objectives.
Their activities may include professional discussions, training programmes, reports, investigations, research projects, public campaigns, conferences, exhibitions, and opportunities for cross-border collaboration.
Each community will also be able to propose initiatives and projects relevant to its field. External partnerships and formal agreements will be coordinated through MENA Network to ensure institutional consistency and protect the professional identity of the initiative.
Membership in the communities is intended to encourage active participation, the exchange of expertise, and the development of projects that produce practical value for journalists and wider society.
Building Professional Networks Across Borders
Commenting on the initiative, MENA Network CEO Aboubakr Ibrahimoglu said that specialised communities can help transform a broad professional network into active spaces for cooperation and production.
“Journalists and media professionals need more than general networking. They need specialised communities where they can exchange knowledge, develop projects, share opportunities, and cooperate with colleagues who understand the demands of their professional fields,” Ibrahimoglu said.
He added that the communities would remain open to new ideas and initiatives from members while operating within a clear professional and organisational framework.
The initiative is expected to strengthen communication among professionals from different countries and backgrounds, encourage the development of collaborative content, and provide younger journalists with access to experienced practitioners and specialists.
From Networking to Collaborative Production
Through the new communities, MENA Network aims to move beyond conventional networking by creating professional groups capable of producing reports, investigations, training activities, research, campaigns, and joint media projects.
The communities will also help identify emerging professional needs and enable MENA Network to develop more targeted programmes, partnerships, and opportunities for its members.
By combining specialised expertise with international professional connections, the initiative seeks to build sustainable communities that contribute to stronger, more responsible, and more innovative journalism across the Middle East, North Africa, and beyond.
