The Palestinian Network for Media Development (PNMD), in collaboration with MENA Network®, has announced the launch of the Palestinian Journalists’ Safety Project. The initiative aims to strengthen the professional safety and psychological well-being of journalists in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and support their ability to continue reporting under safer conditions.
The project responds to the difficult humanitarian and field conditions facing Palestinian media professionals, including threats to physical safety, barriers to accessing information and reporting locations, and the psychological and social pressures associated with sustained reporting in high-risk environments.
Four Pillars of Protection and Support
The project is built around four main pillars. These include providing personal protective equipment suited to field reporting needs and offering mental health and psychosocial support to help journalists cope with reporting-related stress and trauma.
The initiative also includes training and capacity building in journalist safety, risk assessment, and reporting in high-risk environments, alongside promoting practices and procedures that contribute to a safe, professional working environment, uphold journalists’ dignity, and protect their right to practice journalism.
Through this collaboration, the two organizations aim to align project activities with journalists’ actual needs, strengthen their ability to navigate field and professional challenges, and support their continued role in delivering news and information to the public.
Registration Open Until the End of October
The two organizations invite journalists across the Palestinian territories to register for the project, complete the application form, and accurately identify their needs to help assess priorities and guide support activities. Registration remains open until the end of October 2026.
Registration is intended to identify needs, review applications, and determine priorities. It does not automatically guarantee acceptance or assistance.
